Pirate Traders / CutlassEdge Privacy Policy
1. The short version
The CutlassEdge app is local-first: your market data, charts, trading journal, and settings stay on your computer. We never receive them. What we do collect is the minimum to run a business: your email and license record when you buy, what you voluntarily send us (feedback, crash reports if you opt in, support emails), and ordinary website basics. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your data to train AI models.
2. What we collect, and why
From the CutlassEdge app:
| Data | When | Why | Legal basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| License or beta key, activation record, a hashed install identifier | At activation and periodic license checks | To operate licensing and prevent abuse | Contract |
| Crash reports and diagnostics: app version, platform, the active view name and instrument symbol name, preference key names and counts, and the error and crash details | Only if you opt in, or if you press the send button on a crash screen | To fix defects | Consent |
| Feedback you type, with any snapshot you choose to attach | Only when you use the feedback button | To improve the product | Consent |
| Update checks (standard web request; our host sees an IP address in logs) | When the app checks for updates | To deliver updates | Legitimate interest |
| Usage counts (which features are used; no chart data, no account data) | Only if you opt in; off by default | To prioritize development | Consent |
What the app never sends us: your market data, prices, charts, positions, orders, journal entries, workspaces, or broker or data-feed credentials. Your data-feed and brokerage connections run directly between your computer and your own providers, under your own accounts.
From the websites and purchases:
| Data | Source | Why | Legal basis (EU/UK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Name, email, billing details for Brigade/workshop purchases | WooCommerce checkout | To provide what you bought. Card processing is handled by our payment processors (Stripe and PayPal); we do not store full card numbers | Contract; keeping records for tax law: legal obligation |
| CutlassEdge purchase records (email, plan, license) | We sell CutlassEdge directly (Pirate Traders Inc.); Stripe processes payment and applicable taxes under its own privacy policy. The CutlassEdge site and app have their own Privacy Policy | To issue and manage your license | Contract; keeping records for tax law: legal obligation |
| Email address for our mailing list | Signup forms (Mailchimp) | To send the emails you asked for; unsubscribe anytime via the link in every email | Consent |
| Support emails and their contents | You | To help you | Legitimate interest |
| Basic site logs and cookies | Your browser | Site operation and security; we use only essential cookies and no third-party analytics | Legitimate interest |
3. What we share, and with whom
We share personal information only with service providers who process it for us under their own contractual duties: payment processing (Stripe, PayPal), email delivery (Mailchimp for our mailing list; Resend for CutlassEdge license-key emails; and WordPress, on our host WP Engine, for website and order emails such as receipts and account notices), website hosting (WP Engine), app infrastructure (Cloudflare, which hosts our license, update, and feedback services), and community platforms you choose to join (Discord, under its own terms). Our EU and UK representatives (Section 6) receive correspondence about our processing of personal data and forward it to us. We disclose information if the law requires it, or in connection with a merger or sale of the business (your data travels with the business, under this policy’s promises). We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
4. AI
We do not use your personal information, your feedback, or anything from your app to train AI models. If future app features generate AI narration, they run on data already on your machine, and any content sent to an AI service for processing will be disclosed here first and will not include your personal information without consent.
5. Retention
Purchase and license records: while your license or account exists, plus the period tax and accounting law requires. Mailing list: until you unsubscribe. Crash reports and feedback: up to 24 months, then deleted or anonymized. Support email: up to 24 months after the thread closes. We delete sooner on request where the law allows (Section 6).
6. Your rights
Email privacy@piratetraders.com to access, correct, download, or delete your personal information, or to object to or restrict processing. We honor these requests regardless of where you live, subject to records we must keep by law. If you are in the EU, UK, or a similar jurisdiction, these are your statutory rights (GDPR Articles 15 to 21), our legal bases are listed in Section 2, and you may complain to your local supervisory authority. If you are a California resident, note that we do not sell or share personal information as the CCPA defines those terms.

8. Security
